Dr. Joseph Rahman

Although we don't want to see him go, Saddleback Medical Group is happy to support Dr. Rahman as he continues his career in Northern California beginning in the late spring of 2012!

Dr. Rahman has been recruited to create an Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento.  He will also be involved in teaching a new generation of physicians as an Assistant Professor at the University of California at Davis Medical Center.

Dr. Joseph Rahman attended Northwestern University in Chicago and graduated magna cum laude as a double engineering major in biomedical and chemical engineering in 1997.  As an undergraduate, Dr. Rahman participated in research involving polymers that are now used in coronary artery stints.

Dr. Rahman graduated summa cum laude from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2001.  He continued his training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.  He trained and taught as a member of the Sir William Osler Residency Program in Internal Medicine and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2004.  During his training, he conducted research in heart failure and wrote one of the seminal papers on cardiac amyloidosis, a disorder of protein deposition in the heart.

In 2004, Dr. Rahman continued his training, research, and teaching at the UCLA Medical Center and published papers regarding the use of stem cells in heart failure.  He gained clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of heart disease, including coronary artery disease, cholesterol disorders, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation.  He is Board Certified in Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology and has expertise in performing and interpreting Nuclear Stress Tests, Stress Echocardiograms, Transthorasic and Treansesophageal Echocardiograms (TTEs/TEEs), and Coronary CTA or CT angiograms.  He performs diagnostic coronary angiography.

Dr. Rahman firmly believes in the old adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."  "My goal is to provide each of my patients with the best and most individualized care possible.  I love patients that ask the hard questions and seek the best answers, and my job is to assist them in this endeavor."

He has an excellent working relationship with physicians and surgeons at UCLA Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCSD Medical Center, Hoag Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
